FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES SCHEDULE: To minimize inconvenience to golfers, we will do our best to inform you of when we will be undertaking these tasks. As always, we work around the weather and must have some flexibility in scheduling which makes pinpointing exact dates difficult.
Tee Aerification and over seeding
Stump grinding / sodding
Bunker work / sand additions / adjustments
Flower installation (around Memorial Day)
Whole scale pruning of clubhouse plant material
Herbicide spraying for weed control (when weather permits)
Greens Aerification on the 2nd & 3rd
Our priorities the past two weeks have been focused on course cleanup. We have also been edging and redistributing sand in the bunkers to provide consistent playing conditions. You will notice the first tee is near completion with new landscaping having been installed. Sod will be laid as soon as it becomes available. This week we have pressurized the irrigation system and inspected each head to ensure they are performing properly.
As mentioned earlier, we have come thru the winter well. In the last two weeks we have had good moisture, three inches of rain, but we have been limited with growth and recovery by cold nights and cloudy cool days. Consistent soil temperatures of 55 Degrees or more 24 hours per day is required to have uniform growth of turf. BTCC has multiple varieties of turf which react differently under inconsistent cold soil temps. Over the next couple of weeks, let’s hope for consistently warmer weather!
