Bemidji Town & CC - July 2002 Newsletter
The addition to the front of the clubhouse is almost complete and our plans are to have it available for our 4th Annual Member Classic on July 13th. With wedding receptions scheduled for almost every weekend through the rest of the summer, this addition will allow us to provide the clubhouse services our members and guests expect.
We also have completed the addition to the maintenance building. This will be used for Tom's equipment and as an overflow for golf carts and other proshop/clubhouse equipment.
The Long Range Planning Committee and the Board of Directors are busy prioritizing other improvements to our operation. A new septic system is planned for installation this fall and we will receive a complete golf course/driving range improvement plan from Joel Goldstrand and the Green's Committee in the next few weeks.
Sometime later this month we will be mailing out a survey to all of our members. As always, we appreciate your input.
I hope everyone is able to get out and enjoy the beautiful condition of our course and our wonderful summer weather.
SEASON LONG BB
The Season Long Best-Ball is in full swing and you can now view the up-to-date results on our members website at members.bemidjigolf.com.
Also, the pairings for the Season Long Men's Club Championship are posted in the proshop.
Our 78th Annual Birchmont is only a couple of weeks away. This year's tournament will be held Monday-Saturday, July 22-27. The entry fee for members is reduced to $120.00 for championship divisions and $105.00 for other flights. Detailed information can be found on our website at:
BUICK SCRAMBLE UPDATE
I want to thank Tim Dondelinger and Dondelinger Chevrolet-Buick for their support of this year's Buick Scramble.
Our event was held on Saturday, June 22 with 72 players competing to advance to the sectional. The team of Dick Robbins, Scott Robbins, Don Morse and DuWayne Syverson captured low net with a score of 55. Low gross honors went to the team of Scott Hinners, Tom Burlingame, Paul Friesen and Gene Bakke. Congratulations to both teams! They will join Rick and myself at The Meadows in Moorhead on August 6th.
Congratulations to our Tuesday Nite winning teams of Bob Kobilka-Rob Noren, Tom Conzemius-Gary Johnson, Tim Hins-Don Campbell, Jim Sutton-Gary Cartwright and John Wangberg-Mike Tangen.
PEPSI-NEI BEMIDJI PRO-AM
This year's 10th Annual Bemidji Pro-Am sponsored by Pepsi-Nei Bottling will be held on Friday, July 12 with a 9:00 Shotgun. Though most of the professionals playing will be bringing their own amateur teams, a limited number of amateurs will be needed to fill vacant spots. If you are interested, a sign-up is posted with entrants taken on a first-come basis. The entry fee for members is $45.00
FROM THE CLUBHOUSE
Greetings from the clubhouse!
We are looking forward to opening our new addition this month. We have four weddings in July so our new addition should prove to serve its purpose. Please note that we will have a smoking section in this addition that will be available daily.
July looks to be another successful month with parties, weddings and to close out the month - the Birchmont.
We are serving breakfast on the weekends from 8am- 11am. Please come and join us, as I know you will find our menu refreshing.
As a result of our increased business we recommend you make reservations for any evening dinners. By doing so you can be assured a table will be preset and ready when you arrive.
Mother nature is on our side. Let's enjoy it while we can.
As always we promise to do our best!

League play is well underway and it looks like there is a lot of good golf being played. The birdie tree is filling up and the scores on the ringer board are going down. We are trying to post all game results in the three ring binder in the locker room. Remember, there are no mulligans or gimmie putts during league play.
We have our Member/Guest Tournament on July 10th. We hope everyone was able to participate in this fun event. Results will be included in next month's newsletter.
Rally For A Cure will be held on Monday, August 5th and Wednesday, August 7th. We would like to see 100% participation in this event. Golfers will sign up at the start of league play and have a chance to win prizes as well as receive a subscription to Golf For Women.
Also, remember the MWGA tournament will be held on Wednesday, August 14th. You need to be a current member of the MWGA to play in this event. See Rose Fagerstrom if you have any questions.
There is no league play during the week of the Birchmont but I would like to encourage each of you to think about playing in this event. Golfers are flighted according to handicaps/scores so each person has an equal chance to win. This is a good way to show support for our home course.
Can you help in locating the scrapbook that contains the history of BTCC Ladies' League? If anyone has any information please let me know.
Pam Johnson, Chair
The month of June and the on set of some warm, summertime weather has contributed significantly to the recovery of our winter turf damage. This Spring has been extremely frustrating for myself and other superintendents around the state in our attempts to promote growth and recovery in unfavorable conditions. Even though we have a lot of tools and products to help us, 'mother-nature' will always have the controlling hand!
The month of July will keep us busy with the continuous daily maintenance, as well as other projects that have been planned. We will proceed with the final year of sand conversion in our bunkers. We have scheduled to do some tee leveling thru-out the course and also plan to add some steps to #18 tee. As always, should any of you have questions about what we do or ideas to improve our course, feel free to ask me!!
