Bemidji Town & Country Club Online Newsletter - 06/10/05

Hi fellow members!
I hope you have been able to squeeze in a round or two of golf between the rain showers. My name is Gene Bakke (chairman of the Greens Committee) and I am updating the membership on projects that are in progress or are scheduled for this year. Hopefully, our finances will be such that we can improve the course even more.

We had some burn out areas on putting surfaces and decided along with the course superintendent to "grow them back", rather then cut and re-sod.

We have all of the distance markers ordered for the sprinkler heads from 250 yards in to the greens. A special "THANK YOU", to John Peterson, for volunteering his time and equipment to do the GPS readings.

We will be replacing the sand in the green bunkers East of hole number two and the sand in the two fairway bunkers on hole number fifteen. Tom and his crew have straightened the bell on eighteen and enhanced its anchoring with concrete. We are correcting the yardage on hole number six. The yardage was to be 421 yards from the blue tees. Our scorecard reflects that but that distance is actually back on the gold tee box for hole number twelve. We are lengthening the tee box on hole number six North to join with the gold tee box on twelve. On hole number nine, we are widening the back of that tee box so that it is the same width as the front. Tom and his crew will be planting Diablo Nine Bark and Spirea shrubs around the tee yardage markers that have voids due to shrub attrition. During your next round of golf, please look at the rain shelter on hole number six. The roof was rotting so we replaced the roof and will be staining the structure when the weather permits.

I am optimistic that our revenue numbers will be such that we can allocate even more monies for golf cart paths, more sand replacement in other traps and other projects on the golf course.
