Bemidji Town & Country Club Online Newsletter - 07/23/14

From the Superintendent,

I thought I would use this newsletter to update you all on the conditions of the course as we go into the Birchmont week.

As you are aware we completed a venting / topdressing on the greens last Monday and Tuesday, a practice that was very much needed and beneficial for the health and playability of the greens. As mentioned in my previous newsletter we were able to accomplish this with minimal disruption to the golfer. At the time of this writing we received another 1 1/2 inches of rain which should keep our turf green and well defined as we go into the tournament. As we all know, this is not usually the case for BTCC at the end of July.

Recently we completed pruning of the plant materials in the clubhouse landscape as well as adding some new materials to improve the appearance.

I am aware of the weed problem we have in the 18th pond. We are limited in options to treat these weeds as we use this pond to irrigate our golf course. At this time I am investigating options and I will act on a plan when I determine the right course of action.

Finally, by now you are all aware of our bunker renovation / irrigation update scheduled to start Aug. 11. BTCC management is very much aware of members concerns about play interruptions. It must be stated that there will be some disruption but we and the contractor are aware that it must be as minimal as possible. As we get into this project and I can work with the contractor I will do my best to keep you informed as to the sequence of events and timetable to get them done.
